COVID-19 cases continue rise locally, statewide
ESCANABA — New COVID-19 cases continue to climb both locally and at the regional and state level.
Local data Wednesday showed Delta County added 81 new confirmed positives in the past two days, while Menominee County had 36 new confirmed cases.
Delta County also had 43 probable virus cases and Menominee County 15 probables since Monday, according to Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday.
The PHDM on Wednesday had Delta County at 6,000 confirmed positives, 1,391 probable cases and 137 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,159 confirmed positives, 1,179 probables and 61 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.
At the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 650 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 205 in Marquette County, 82 in Delta County, 68 in Dickinson County, 58 in Houghton County, 50 in Chippewa County, 33 in Menominee and Gogebic counties, 31 in Iron County, 23 in Mackinac County, 21 in Baraga County, 15 in Alger County, 10 in Luce County, eight in Schoolcraft County, seven in Keweenaw County and six in Ontonagon County. The state posted three more virus-related deaths in Chippewa County, two in Mackinac County, and one each in Menominee, Ontonagon and Gogebic counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 37,314 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 672 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 362 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 495 confirmed cases and 586 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 685 confirmed, 83 probable and 27 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 735 confirmed, 422 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 839 confirmed cases and 418 probable, eight deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,147 confirmed cases and 619 probable, 20 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,319 confirmed cases, 219 probable and 46 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,747 confirmed cases and 197 probable, 59 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,962 confirmed cases and 430 probable, 34 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,224 confirmed cases and 3,242 probable, and 59 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,151 confirmed cases, 1,176 probable and 54 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,784 confirmed cases and 1,534 probable, 75 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 4,921 confirmed cases, 890 probable, 63 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 5,991 confirmed cases and 1,378 probable, 115 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 7,952 confirmed cases, 1,888 probable and 92 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 27,346 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of 13,673 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,595,919. The state since Monday added 277 deaths attributed to the virus — including 165 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 27,563.
