Woman dead following Michigamme crash

MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP — A 20-year-old woman died from injuries suffered in a crash Saturday in Michigamme Township, according to the Michigan State Police.

Michigan State Police reported that at about 6 p.m. Saturday, troopers from the MSP Negaunee Post and deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a multi-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. 41 near mile marker 102 in Michigamme Township.

The investigation determined a red 2005 Pontiac Aztek was moving westbound on U.S. 41 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with two east-bound vehicles. The driver of the Aztec, a 20-year-old female from downstate Fenton, suffered fatal injuries, and the 19-year-old female passenger from downstate Brighton was transported to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment of serious injuries.

Two other injured motorists were transported to UPHS-Bell for treatment of their injuries.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

MSP Negaunee troopers were assisted at the scene by Anttila’s Towing, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, UP Health Systems East and West, Michigamme/Spur first responders, Marquette County 131, Michigamme Fire, Champion Fire and the Marquette County Road Commission.
