Reynolds to run for 108th state House seat

Christiana Reynolds

ESCANABA — An Escanaba woman who has been deeply involved with the recall of three county commissioners has filed to run against State Representative Dave Prestin (R- Cedar River) for the 108th District seat.

Christiana Reynolds filed to run in the race Monday, the day prior to the filing deadline to appear on the November ballot. According to the Michigan Secretary of State’s office she is both the only Democrat in the race and only candidate running against Prestin, of Cedar River, who was first elected to the seat in 2022.

Reynolds is a familiar face for many in Delta County. She is the administrator for the Delta County Citizens for Ethical Leadership Facebook group, the primary forum for the coalition of residents who successfully collected signatures to place the names of county commissioners Dave Moyle, Bob Barron and Bob Petersen on the ballot. She led the group through letter writing campaigns, signature drives, and was the legal sponsor for the petition against commissioner Moyle.

Reynolds has a history of campaign work, previously worked on the campaign for Kelli Van Ginhoven, who ran against Moyle for the county commission seat in in 2020. She is once again challenging Moyle for the seat on May 7.

Reynold’s run was announced on the newly launched “Christiana Reynolds for Michigan’s 108” Facebook page, as well as in a post made by Reynolds in the Citizens for Ethical Leadership group.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for Michigan’s 108th District. I believe that every individual deserves access to quality education, affordable childcare, safe housing, and opportunities for economic growth. My platform is founded on these principles, and I am dedicated to working tirelessly to address the pressing needs of our community,” said in the post on her official candidate page.

Her published platform includes addressing the unique needs of rural schools, advocating for affordable and accessible childcare, addressing housing affordability and homelessness, and promoting sustainable economic growth and job creation.

Reynolds is currently a high school social studies teacher at Rapid River Schools.
