Congestion expected at holiday light display

RAPID RIVER — The Michigan State Police are asking for the community to take extra caution while viewing a light display in Rapid River the next two weekends.

Rapid River business owners have put together a Christmas lights display that will be open to the public to drive though the next two Saturdays in December. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Masonville Township park in Rapid River by the pavilion. Last Saturday was the first day of the event, and it turned out much larger than they expected, therefore the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post was contacted for assistance with the next two events.

If you are planning on attending the Christmas light display, pay attention to the traffic signs and follow the route. Everyone attending the drive through display will turn south on Wisconsin Avenue and go all the way to Washington Street, then to South Main Street, turning right at the Masonville Township Fire Hall. The side streets will have barricades in order to keep the flow of traffic one direction. After exiting the light display, all traffic will exit out Pine Street onto U.S. 2. There will also be a lighted traffic sign on U.S. 2 for eastbound traffic.

The Michigan State Police are asking people to be patient with the traffic during the light display. Michigan State Police Gladstone Post will be in the area to make sure traffic continues to flow smoothly and respond to any issues that may arise.

Starting at $3.50/week.
