Delta County nears 2,000 virus cases
ESCANABA — The Upper Peninsula officially passed 10,000 cases of COVID-19.
As of Thursday, the U.P. had 10,286 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1,705 probable cases, 175 deaths and 29 probable deaths linked to the disease, as of Thursday according to state officials.
The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections, which had had 2,431 cases of the virus as of Wednesday, bringing the total number of U.P. infections to more than 12,700.
According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Thursday, Delta County had a total of 1,986 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 232 probable cases, 47 deaths and nine probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,032 confirmed cases, 107 probable cases and 12 deaths; Schoolcraft County had 151 confirmed cases, nine probable cases and one death.
Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 138 confirmed cases, 60 probable cases and one death; Baraga County had 318 confirmed cases, 46 probable cases and five deaths; Chippewa County had 319 confirmed cases, 346 probable cases and two deaths; Dickinson County had 1,384 confirmed cases, 62 probable cases, 28 deaths and two probable deaths; Gogebic County had 499 confirmed cases, 186 probable cases, nine deaths and 10 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,130 confirmed cases, 243 probable cases, nine deaths and two probable deaths; Iron County had 617 confirmed cases, 36 probable cases, 27 deaths and four probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 47 confirmed cases, 10 probable cases and one death; Luce County had 110 confirmed cases and 42 probable cases; Mackinac County had 188 confirmed cases and 49 probable cases; Marquette County had 2,142 confirmed cases, 251 probable cases and 24 deaths; and Ontonagon County had 225 confirmed cases, 26 probable cases and nine deaths.
The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Wednesday, the MDOC had 10,536 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 76 deaths according to state officials. Of those cases, 3,312 were active infections statewide.
In the U.P. Alger Correctional Facility has had 80 confirmed cases, 50 of which are currently active infections; Baraga Correctional Facility has had nine confirmed cases, with one case an active infection; Chippewa Correctional Facility has had 125 confirmed cases, 16 of which were active; Kinross Correctional Facility has had 709 confirmed cases, 708 of which are active; Marquette Correctional Facility has had 845 confirmed case, 79 of which are actives; and Newberry Facility has had 647 confirmed cases, 272 of which are active.
