Virus cases remain high in local area

ESCANABA — Delta County continued to report the largest number of cases of COVID-19 Monday, and new school-related case numbers showed U.P. students of all ages are being hit with the virus.

The Upper Peninsula had 4,264 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 696 probable cases, 69 deaths and four probable death linked to the disease, as of Monday according to state officials.

Schools are determined to be having a school-related outbreak if they have been found by their local health department to have two or more COVID-19 cases that may have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households. Case counts for school-related outbreaks include those associated with before and after school programs, such as sports. When applicable, outbreak reporting also includes cases originating from on-campus and off-campus student housing.
