ESCANABA — A surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths in Delta and Menominee counties contributed to nearly 100 additional cases being added to the Upper Peninsula’s case count Tuesday. Of the 99 new cases, 72% took place in either Delta or Menominee county.

The Upper Peninsula had 2,278 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 349 probable cases, 30 deaths and one probable death linked to the disease as of Tuesday, according to state officials.

Delta County had a total of 435 confirmed COVID-19 cases — a significant jump from the 367 confirmed cases reported the previous day. In addition, Delta County had 61 probable cases Tuesday, up from 47, and added a death, bringing the total dead in Delta County to eight.

Menominee County added 25 confirmed cases to bring its total to 350 confirmed cases. Fifty-eight probable cases were reported Tuesday, up from 50. Like Delta County, Menominee added a death, bringing the county’s total to two.

In Schoolcraft County, test results remained relatively stable. Two confirmed cases were added, brining the toral to 27. Both Monday and Tuesday, the county reported two probable cases.

Elsewhere in the peninsula Tuesday, Alger County had 17 confirmed cases and two probable cases; Baraga County had 26 confirmed cases, nine probable cases, and two deaths; Chippewa County had 50 confirmed cases and 28 probable cases; Dickinson County had 156 confirmed cases, three probable case and two deaths; Gogebic County had 151 confirmed cases, 13 probable cases, one probable death and one confirmed death; Houghton County had 441 confirmed cases, 90 probable cases and one death; Iron County had 193 confirmed cases, four probable cases and two deaths; Keweenaw County had eight confirmed cases and two probable cases; Luce County had 12 confirmed cases and one probable case; Mackinac County had 44 confirmed cases and 18 probable cases; Marquette County had 327 confirmed cases, 57 probable cases and 12 deaths; and Ontonagon County had 41 confirmed cases and one probable case.
