Local voters back Biden in state primary

ESCANABA — Democratic voters in Delta, Schoolcraft and Menominee counties supported Joe Biden in Michigan’s presidential primary elections Tuesday.

In Delta County’s Democratic primary, 2,317 voters, or 56 percent, cast their votes in favor of Biden. Bernie Sanders received 1,302 votes, or 31.47 percent.

In the Republican primary, 2,451 Delta County voters, or 96.42 percent, voted for Donald Trump.

In Schoolcraft County, 573 voters, or 62.08 percent, supported Biden in the Democratic primary. Sanders received 279 votes, or 30.23 percent.

Trump received 499 votes, or 97.46 percent, from Schoolcraft County residents voting in the Republican primary Tuesday.

The majority of residents that voted in Menominee County chose Biden, as well.

Residents had to chose either a Democratic or Republican ballot at the polls Tuesday.

A total of 2,162 votes were counted on Menominee County’s Democratic ballot.

Around 61 percent of voters voted Joe Biden (1,319 votes), while only around 29 percent of votes were cast in favor of Bernie Sanders (620 votes).

Around 95 percent of voters voted President Donald Trump (1,442 votes) in Menominee County.

Mark Sanford received five votes, Joe Walsh received five votes, Bill Weld received nine votes and 57 votes were cast as uncommitted.
