Cause of fatal house fire being investigated

L’ANSE — Investigation is continuing into the cause of a fatal house fire in L’Anse Wednesday.

According to the L’Anse Police Department, the blaze on North Fourth Street was reported at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday.

A 57-year-old man was found unresponsive inside the home and later pronounced dead at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

Officers said the front of the residence was engulfed in flames. Once first responders were able to gain entry through a back door, they found the man on the floor near the door. He was taken out of the home.

Lifesaving efforts were made at the scene. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victims’ identification is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The Michigan State Police Fire Division is conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire, police said.
