ESCANABA — When the Community Foundation for Delta County received a call from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office inquiring on the possibility of replacing two old G3 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) that were showing signs of aging and mentioned that the Sherriff Department was adding an addition patrol car in need of one a well, the Community Foundations’ Board of Trustees knew they wanted to help, said Tom Mitchell, board member.

“Replacing one AED is quite expensive, none the less needing 3, so this was weighing on my mind. I wasn’t sure how the Sheriff Department was going to be able to afford to do that. Therefore, I made a call to the Community Foundation for Delta County for direction and or help,” stated Road Patrol Lt. Todd Tardiff. He continued, “The Community Foundation for Delta County stepped up big time and donated three new Powerheart G5 AED’s to the Sheriff Department. The community foundation cares so much about helping to make our community a better place to live, work and play. Their support and all they do for community is very much appreciated.”

“Since 2017, the Community Foundation for Delta County has either replaced or added over 65 new Powerheart G5 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and numerous adult and pediatric pads into the community. We have been informed by various agencies that these lifesaving devises are having a huge effect on individuals, families, friends and the community at large”, stated Cheryl Andzejewski, executive director of the Community Foundation for Delta County. She continued, “This hit home when an AED helped save the life of one of our foundation staff’s brother-in-law and really puts into perspective how the community foundation’s support has helped first responders be able to perform a critical job duty.”

“The community foundation receives numerous inquiries about the replacement of old AED’s and batteries, as well as replacing outdated or used adult and pediatric pads. We would like to be in the financial position to be able to help this ongoing need”, stated Mr. Mitchell.

Mrs. Andzejewski commented, “On behalf of the Community Foundation for Delta County Board of Trustees and staff, our sincere thank you to all of the First Responders, EMT’s, Emergency Staff and all those in the health care profession for your dedication and compassion. You make a difference.”
