Forest and wildlife fund awards grants

ESCANABA — The Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund (UPSF & W) Grants Committee announced the recipients of its spring 2020 grants round.

Those receiving grants are:

– Copper Harbor Trails Society, Inc. – Keweenaw Point Trail Phase 1.5: Bridging the Gap Project, non-motorized trail connecting Copper Harbor with High Rock Bay for use by mountain bikers, hikers, skiers and snowshoers of all ages

– Delta Conservation District – 2020 Halloween Spooktacular -family event at Pioneer Trail Park

– Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp Association – Renovation of four high use buildings for education and camping

– Great Lakes Sports & Recreation Club – National Hunting & Fishing Day – Youth in the Outdoors and their families

– Hiawatha Land Camp Corporation-Boys Scouts of America – Camp Hiawatha walk-in freezer

– Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club – UTV purchase for winter grooming and summer trail maintenance

– Upper Peninsula Luge Club – To the Top! – youth education, sustainability, track snow efficiency and wildlife habitat at Lucy Hill in Negaunee

“Our committee is grateful for the foresight of the former Mead Corporation for their desire to have a partnership with their employees; sportsmen and sportswomen and the youth of the Upper Peninsula. We are proud to be a committee under the auspices of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula,” said Greg Sudderth, chair of the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund. “It is our mission to foster a better understanding of our forests and wildlife as well as assist U. P. residents, including our youth, to become more active and enjoy the outdoors as much as is possible.”

P.” They truly care about the residents of the Upper Peninsula and in educating and offering healthy outdoor activities for individuals and families to enjoy,” said Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula President Cheryl Andzejewski.
