OSF Hospice to host volunteer training
ESCANABA — OSF Hospice will host volunteer training for community members interested in becoming volunteers for hospice.
Hospice volunteers have unique duties and spend their time with the terminally ill to provide a kind and comforting presence. They give the patient’s family and caregivers the opportunity to attend appointments, go to lunch, or in some cases, just take a nap, knowing that their loved one is not alone.
Becoming a hospice volunteer does not require patient care skills, only compassion, commitment and a love for people. “Sometimes the people who are at first unsure of their talents go on to be the best volunteers, and to find a deep sense of reward in the position,” said Ilene Kotajarvi, volunteer coordinator at OSF Hospice.
Training will be held on Monday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 3, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group in the second floor conference rooms.
If interested, call Kotajarvi at (906) 786-3915 for information or to register.
