Scouts raise over $66K with virtual food drive

APPLETON, Wis. — The Bay-Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently released the results of its virtual scouting for Food Drive. The traditional Scouting for Food Drive was set to happen on April 18, and due to the Safer at Home order and the safety of Scouts, the drive was postponed.

Many Scouts and the council wanted to find a way to help, as the food banks and pantries were and are in need. Troop 73 reached out with a plan and asked for help to make it happen. The council quickly adopted the idea and shared it with the Cub Scout Packs and Scouts BSA Troops.

Each pack and troop personalized a digital flier with the contact information for the food bank or pantry they usually donate collected food to and asked family, friends, and neighbors to make monetary donations instead. The community provided great support and generous giving again this year, and more than $66,000 was raised for local food banks and pantries.

The Scouts are proud to engineer and execute this drive that has helped to fill the shelves of food pantries throughout the 35 counties of eastern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

In addition to the virtual drive, The Bay-Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts of America plans to host the annual Scouting for Food in-person drive on Oct. 17.

The Bay-Lakes Council consists of 35 counties in Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. For more information on the Boy Scouts of America, please visit www.scouting.org.
