ESCANABA — More than 25 area churches and 150 volunteers, with financial support by local businesses and agencies, are putting the finishing touches on “Mission of Hope” in Delta County. This one-day event will take place on the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba on Aug. 24, beginning at 10 a.m.

The idea was born when local pastors got together to find ways to show God’s love in a way that would build trust and hope in our community. There will be many resources available to the public. The hope is for every man, woman and child to know they matter, that hope is out there, and to help everyone take steps forward in life.

Resources available at the event will include 10,000 pounds of groceries, school supplies, new shoes, health screenings, hair cuts, makeovers, family portraits, lunch, and possibly a job fair.

The day’s program will end in the evening with a special manifestation of Christian unity with the appearance of the internationally-famed Christian music group “The Newsboys,” who will perform on the main stage at the fairgrounds. Since this special concert is a separate event that day and involves financial challenge, it will be available through a special ticket sale.
