Amvets host Country Slingers this Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country band Country Slingers from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, June 29. The public is welcome.

3-day 100th anniversary church celebration

GLADSTONE — United Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone will be celebrating its 100th anniversary July 6 through 8.

Events include a community hymn sing and ice cream social on Friday; an open house, old-fashioned Swedish service, banquet, and performance of “The Picture” on Saturday, and an anniversary worship service on Sunday. Garden Walk set for July 22 in Delta County

ESCANABA — The 2018 Garden Walk, sponsored by the Delta County Master Gardeners Association, will be held on July 22 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It promises to be a great day, with a variety of spectacular and inspiring gardens.

There are a lot of water features this year, and the gardens are around Escanaba and Wells. Tickets will go on sale, July 9 and be available at Wickerts Floral, Trotter Floral, and the DDA. Tickets on the day of the event will be available outside the DDA at 1 p.m.

Tours will take place rain or shine.

Escanaba Class of 1968 reunion meeting

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Area High School Class of 1968 will hold a final planning meeting for the 50-year class reunion on Monday, July 9.

The meeting will be held at Drifter’s Restaurant at 2 p.m. All class members interested in helping with the reunion are welcome to attend.

Second summer benefit concert set for July 15

BARK RIVER — The second program in the summer benefit concert series at Northern Sun Winery, now in its third year, supports Bonifas Art Center programs. Returning for their second appearance in series are internationally traveled duo Genna and Jesse on July 15. The duo describes their music as “retro soul pop.”

Bring lawn chairs or blankets, and the concert will take place rain or shine. Picnic lunches and snacks are encouraged, but no carry-in alcoholic beverages are allowed. Wine tastings will take place all afternoon; free vineyard tour at 3 p.m. Tickets with wine tasting coupons are available in at a discount in advance at the winery, Bonifas Art Center, and Delta County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are also available on the day of concert.

The vineyard is located south of Bark River. Follow Pure Michigan directional signs from U.S. 2 and vineyard signs along D Road (South Bark River Road).

Other summer concerts in the series included U.P. Gumbo on June 17 and will include Kitty Donohoe on Aug. 19.

Christian Closet changes hours for July

ESCANABA — Families and individuals in need will be welcome to visit the Christian Closet and select from an assortment of gently used clothing and shoes of all sizes, non-perishable food items, household supplies, and more. Everything will be available free of charge.

The Christian Closet is located at the Escanaba Church of Christ building located in Soo Hill at 5079 18th Road, Escanaba.

The Christian Closet will be open on the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first Wednesday in July is the 4th, so the closet will be closed in observance of Independence Day. The Christian Closet will be open the following week on Wednesday, July 11.
