Wells Lions raffle winner

ESCANABA — The $100 winner of the Wells Lions Club’s 52-week raffle for week 41, dated May 11, is Gretchen Tallman of Escanaba.

St. Thomas Pasty Sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N. in Escanaba, will host the second day of their pasty sale today. Pick up will be at the church between 3 and 5 p.m.

Pasties can be made with or without rutabaga. Early sales are not allowed, and it is first come, first served.

This is the church’s last pasty sale until September.

MARSP meeting

MENOMINEE – The Menominee County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will meet today at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Rd. 338, Carbondale, Mich.

Registration will be from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. CDT with the lunch served at 11:30 a.m. CDT. On the menu is a chicken dinner. The program will include a welcome back and a brief business meeting, MARSP handouts and information about insurance and legislative issues. DCCA, Elmer’s brat sale

ESCANABA — A brat sale will be held at Elmer’s County Market on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA). Brats, hot dogs, chips and pop will be available.

A notice to the community: DCCA operations have been temporarily moved to 3500 Ludington St., suit 100 (Willow Creek Professional Building) in Escanaba due to flooding issues. DCCA’s number will remain the same, and updates will be posted to the DCCA Facebook page.

Volunteers needed at Fernwood Cemetery

GLADSTONE — Volunteers are needed to put flags on service members’ gravesites at the Fernwood Cemetery on Friday at 9 a.m. A list is given for each section of service members, and if service members are not on the sheet, you will need to add them.

Containers of flags will be placed at each section for that section. Do not take flags to a different section. The exact number of flags is for the number of gravesites in that section. Please join the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 in volunteering.

DCCA, Elmer’s County Market brat sale

ESCANABA — Join the Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) at Elmer’s County Market for the weekly Brat Sale on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the clients DCCA serves.

DCCA will be serving brats and hot dogs along with chips and a pop or water. If you would like to pre-order for pick-up or delivery, call 906-786-0854.

Escanaba Eagles Mother’s Day breakfast

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will be hosting a late Mother’s Day breakfast at 608 Ludington St. on Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. There will be plenty of parking available in the back.

American Legion breakfast

GLADSTONE — The American Legion post 71, 802 Delta Ave., Gladstone, will host a late Mother’s Day all-you-can-eat breakfast on Sunday.

Everyone is welcome to join for the breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Mom and kids 5 years and younger eat free.

Delta County Unified gathering

ESCANABA — On Tuesday, May 19, Delta County Unified will host MacKenzie Walz from Promote the Vote at the Bay College Heirman Center, Room 952. MacKenzie will speak about voting rights, election security and proof of citizenship. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will start promptly at 6 p.m.

St. Charles Church pasty sale

RAPID RIVER — St. Charles Church in Rapid River will be selling fresh pasties on Tuesday, May 19. Pickup is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Parish Center. Preorder now for Memorial Day.

Habitat golf tournament

IRON MOUNTAIN — Habitat for Humanity’s Menominee River branch is holding its “Raise the Roof” golf outing on Thursday, May 21 at TimberStone.

Lakeview accepting items for rummage sale

ESCANABA — Lakeview Cemetery is accepting donations for its annual rummage sale. People may make drop-offs to 2110 Third Avenue South in Escanaba from now until May 23 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

To have items picked up from the donor’s home, people may call Sharon at 906-553-2403. No clothes, mattresses or electronics will be accepted. The rummage sale will be in early June. Lakeview thanks the public in advance.

Gladstone Schools teen driver safety night

GLADSTONE — Gladstone Area Schools will be having a teen driver safety night on May 26 starting at 6 p.m.in the Gladstone High School parking lot. All Delta County teens are invited to attend.

Public Safety officers will be there to show a teen what happens during a traffic stop, have the opportunity to practice real-life scenarios with an officer and talk about distracted driving. Each participating student will receive a hands-free phone holder and a chance to win gift cards donated by Harlie’s Angels non profit.

Vinyl record show at the Landmark Inn

MARQUETTE — A three-day vinyl record show will be held on the 6th floor “Sky Room” of the Landmark Inn, 230 N. Front Street in downtown Marquette on Friday, May 29 from 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thousands of new and used vinyl records, CDs, posters, cassettes, books and t-shirts will be available for purchase. The Northland Pub serves a wide variety of tasty food, beverage options and weekend brunch. On the 6th floor, The Crow’s Nest offers craft cocktails and light bites.

U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Antique Village

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam & Gas Engine Association’s Antique Village will be offering two sewing classes on Thursday, June 4, 11, 18 and 25. Students at least nine-years-old and adults are welcome.

Both levels meet for an hour on each Thursday and will be offered concurrently at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT. Four one-hour classes will be offered — level one is for beginners, and level two requires level one or equivalent.

Pet supply drive

ESCANABA — Menards is serving as a drop site for donations of pet supplies — food, treats, feeders, collars, beds and more — that will be donated to the Humane Association. A collection box will be near the exit doors of the Escanaba store at 3300 Ludington St. until May 31.

Gladstone Class of ’76 reunion

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course.

American Legion post collecting unserviceable flags

GLADSTONE — Do you have unserviceable, torn American Flags? The American Legion Post 71, 802 Delta Ave. in Gladstone, is currently collecting flags for proper disposal (container/post box located outside of post).

In Honor of USA 250 Project, the post is hoping to collect 250 flags before their “Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags” on Flag Day, June 14th. Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. Funds from the sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Large print books are often requested.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations

ESCANABA — The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 3430 Ludington St, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Delta Animal Shelter requests donations

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations: Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, dog collars/leashes, rabbit food and hay.

Monetary donations would be exceptionally helpful, especially with the amount of medical and police cases.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road 426, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in the donation box.

Gladstone church offers clothing

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.
