Under-employment

EDITOR: Today’s paper, January 3, 2022, headline states that unemployment ticks up in November. 5.1% in Delta County. Right now, Meijer, Menards, Elmer’s, and Walmart all are short-staffed. The paper mill has been advertising. Andex workers are working overtime every week. I have picked up workers from every type of business and they all tell me that they are under-staffed. So, this is troubling. Nobody to work, but five out of every 100 are collecting money from the government; from me. Where does government get the money to pay them for not working? Your tax money. Soon afterward comes reality of life with taxes, paying for Santa Claus gifts and the sickness of the virus that hit so many. EDITOR: I am responding to the article on page 1 of Tuesday, Dec. 4 Daily Press. Carla K. Johnson writes, “The nation’s COVID -19 death toll stands at 800,000. A year ago, it was 300,000. An untold number of lives, perhaps tens of thousands have been saved by vaccination.” What was this “untold number” that was saved? 500,000 more lives were lost after the vaccines. EDITOR: The holiday season is upon us and receiving is all the buzz. Santa fills the minds of young children, dreaming about what toys might be under their Christmas tree on Christmas morning. Black Friday kicks off the buying season, as parents race around from store to store for the greatest deals in hopes of finding just the right gift for their children. EDITOR: The website www.justfacts.com has a long but very readable article titled “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Masks.” The article references dozens of studies from around the world, from before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, with citations and web links. The study cited in Ralph Blasier’s Nov 30th letter is scrutinized closely, to include interesting facts regarding the lead authors “post hoc analysis on a subset of their original data”. Veterans food baskets

EDITOR: Being a veteran,I would have liked to have had the opportunity to thank those responsible for the food basket giveaway as Mr. Bovin did recently. However, since I was never notified of this event, I could not do so. I don’t know why I wasn’t contacted though I was contacted for the food basket that was given for Easter. Maybe it’s an anomaly that won’t happen again. I can live with that, but maybe other vets have also been affected, so those in charge should check it out. Ray Maki Escanaba
