Line 5 and reliable energy

EDITOR: The region’s ability to receive an uninterrupted supply of reliable energy from Enbridge’s Line 5, while protecting Michigan’s waters, is not an either-or situation as portrayed in a recent article. Our region relies on Enbridge Line 5 to provide light crude oil and natural gas liquids, including propane, to heat our homes and power Michigan’s economy. Enbridge uses the best preparedness and prevention strategies to ensure the protection of our treasured waterways while upholding our commitment to providing this vital energy. Last fall, we opened the Enbridge ...

Delta County Board meeting

EDITOR: Residents of Delta County, I attended the Delta County board meeting on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. I am appalled at the hatchet job that was done to the controller/administrator Emily DeSalvo by Bob Barron, Dave Moyle and Robert Peterson. My family are residents of Delta County, for over 120 years. I have never witnessed anything like this in all of my life.. I recommend that the residents of Delta County call for immediate resignation these three board members: Dave Moyle, Bob Barron and Robert Peterson. If this is not successful we need to file a petition for a recall ...

Letter response

EDITOR: In the January 20 letter to the editor, KelliVan Ginhoven, failed candidate to the county board, made mention of the election results. Her comment regarding vote totals indicates a great amount of disdain for both the voters of Delta County and the election process. VanGinhoven lost the election, the voters of her district cast their precious ballots for someone other than her, that by her own standards, makes her the loser. I understand defeat is a difficult pill to swallow, even more so for her when she realizes that no number of temper tantrums at public meetings will change ...

Commissioner John Malnar Commissioner Steven Viau Commissioner Bob Barron Commissioner David Moyle Commissioner Robert Peterson Re: Delta Conservation District Contract Commissioners: The commission should seek legal advice about the recent action by the Delta Conservation District. Last summer the county entered into a 10 year agreement with the Delta Conservation District. Under the contract the county was to pay the Delta Conservation District $100,000.00, provide office space for the District, provide maintenance and IT assistance. $75,000.00 of the appropriation pays ...

Spokesperson needed

EDITOR: When there is news, there is usually a spokesperson that holds a press conference, or something similar. This gets the information out to the public, and usually there is a chance to ask questions. I would love to see something like that locally. I would even envision a short, TV or radio session where individuals could send in questions and then a spokesperson could get some of those questions and answer them on TV or radio. We have very little feedback to the city council or he planning commission or the county board. I know, there is general public comment at council ...

Let‘s take this slow

EDITOR: Thank you to the Escanaba Planning Commission for issuing a moratorium on pot shops for a moment. Thank you, also, to Dial Enterprises, the owners of the mall. There is no cap on how many pot shops can be in the city, unlike liquor licenses. What could possibly go wrong with that? Initially there was to be a buffer zone around schools, churches, and libraries of 1,000 feet proposed by the state. The planning commission agreed with this 1,000 feet, which would have protected most of downtown. Our city council, however, wanted a buffer of just 500 feet so they made a ...
