Letter response

EDITOR:

In the January 20 letter to the editor, KelliVan Ginhoven, failed candidate to the county board, made mention of the election results. Her comment regarding vote totals indicates a great amount of disdain for both the voters of Delta County and the election process. VanGinhoven lost the election, the voters of her district cast their precious ballots for someone other than her, that by her own standards, makes her the loser. I understand defeat is a difficult pill to swallow, even more so for her when she realizes that no number of temper tantrums at public meetings will change it. When one enters competition, a wise competitor accepts the possibility of defeat and has the class to accept it with grace. Obviously the voters of Delta County made the best choice.

Now VanGinhoven is apparently going to inundate us with an endless stream of petty baseless disinformation and allegations in effort to both undermine the board and throw another tantrum via the press.

She mentions issues regarding the malfunctioning weather reporting system, as if they are something new. What Kelli doesn’t mention is that she and Emily DeSalvo knew about the problem, or at least should have since she bragged about having personal tours with the airport manager and DeSalvo. Were this failed candidate to be civic minded, such a concern would have been made public as soon as it was discovered. Instead she held the information back from the public, endangering the airport, passengers and the people she wanted to represent.

VanGinhoven seems unsure about which side of the issues she stands; unhappy with a commissioner not taking taxpayer money to attend meetings not necessary to remain informed about, or spending money to assure the board understands the legalities of their position and duties. It raises the question, is it about spending money or saving money; or is it just a poor loser stamping off the field crying about how she was cheated?

To make her fit of rage worse, she resorts to shameless fabrication in her letter to make another weak point. Supporting former Commissioner Johnson’s providing misleading information regarding what the attorney will be providing. The Roberts Rules were mentioned once in the entire meeting, and that as a question regarding its inclusion in the training.

Elections still mean something here, the voters very clearly spoke, VanGinhoven and Johnson have clearly demonstrated that the voters made the right choice. If they don’t like looking foolish they should do their homework before speaking out, and learn to lose gracefully.
