EDITOR: Shirley Gollach’s letter of June 1, 2023 refers to me as an “equal-opportunity offender.” Shirley, if you choose to take the opportunity to be offended by facts, truth and opinions (which are not facts), free feel… your choice. After reading her letter several times (I find there are no supportable “facts”, just opinions). Lets look at a few: Commissioners are bound by federal policy to protect the privacy of persons being disciplined, terminated or in an interview process leading to decisions on hiring. City not ready for summer

EDITOR: Spring. It’s also summer. In a little over two weeks it will be summer. Does the city know? First item: Are we not going to utilize the beach house? Second item: Kruisin’ Classics was just here. Before that, the weather had been perfect for at least 10 days, but where were the flowers? The planters were full of weeds. What happened? If the city workers (or whoever does it) was too busy or unavailable, you could have put the word out and I believe thee are enough of us to plant the flowers. Annexation/solar farm – Escanaba Township

EDITIOR: The original solar farm proposal for Escanaba Township was for 1,200 acres, scaled back to 811 acres over a 25 year period. Through my research, Farmers would earn $300 - $2,000 per acre per year. I estimated on the lowest end or $300 here. 811 acres x $300 = $243,300 x 25 years = $6,082,500 total. I believe this would be for about 10 farmer’s lands. Each farmer would earn a minimum of about $608,250 total or probably more. On top of that, they will gain tax breaks for federal/Michigan tax rebates. That means they and one Delta County commissioner member will benefit well ...

Delta County is in jeopardy

EDITOR: Delta County is under attack from within by the chairman of the board of commissioners. He is on an ego trip, making decisions based on his private interests, not the interests of the citizens. He announces what the board will do on the radio before any discussions, motions, or votes. Then he brings it to the board, insulting the intelligence of the public, by pretending to deliberate. Escanaba Township

EDITOR: To get to the point. I am struggling. I have lived all but five months of my almost 70 years if life in Escanaba Township. To see it being brought to it knees by selfish, self-serving people is horrific to me. To see land that was deemed ecologically unsound for solar fields be brought back to the table is so unethical. To ruin a whole community and put us all in dire straights because of selfishness to me is unconscionable. It hurts my heart. It hurts my head. I can’t understand it.
