History garden

EDITOR: This letter is in response to Ms. Karen Moore’s snarky response at the last council meeting, “It’s easier to get a pot store in Escanaba than a garden.” Well, Ms. Moore those pot stores had a process to follow regarding guidelines. They had to submit the legal paperwork with documentation…not just, “I have an idea!” You started out with an idea for “history garden” with not even a drawing or how you were going to fund or maintain this “history garden.” You still haven’t applied for grant money for this new idea for the “history garden” or ...

County board recall

EDITOR: Dear Delta County Community voters, A few disappointed election losers are attempting to recall three Delta County commissioners, for doing their jobs. After she spoke to all of them in an extremely disrespectful tone during a public meeting, the board had no choice but to terminate her employment, as any sensible, functioning board would have done. This is the reason for the recall, which will cost taxpayers many thousands of dollars. Recall organizers will tell you that they have bipartisan support. I do not believe that to be true. Despite the attacks upon their ...

Two plus two

EDITOR: Many have grown tired of political organizations pounding a narrative that is not true. I suppose they believe if something is continually displayed, people will eventually believe the lie. For several years we have been inundated with commercials and not-so-subtle messages displayed on football helmets and basketball uniforms. Unity, Equality, Justice, Tolerance and BLM have been displayed incessantly. Each of these words and phrases imply prejudice is still rampant in our culture. Even President Biden has recently said, “the #1 problem in America is white supremacy!” What ...

Township annexation

EDITOR: I can’t believe that the most important meeting for the township annexation wasn’t televised Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Perhaps for the public to ignore it? The attorney for the application claimed that “it was not an annexation.” What? His application is one and the same. It was publicized everywhere as an annexation. See Michigan law. He said a conflict of interest was “legally impossible.” What? If that one commissioner didn’t have a huge financial interest in the annexation, would he have fought that hard? I doubt it. Accused Escanaba Township treasurer ...

Road repairs

EDITOR: In Pennsylvania, a portion of highway, a very busy highway, collapsed after a truck fire or causing a fire, whatever the cause. 12 days later, that road has been re-built and re-opened. So, it is only a “temporary” repair. It looks pretty good to me. In Florida, a hurricane took out a bridge to Sanibel Island. 30 days later, the bridge had been re-built and re-opened. Escanaba, Michigan. Stephenson Avenue was torn up in the early summer of 2022. It is now summer of 2023. Still torn up. In fact, it looks like they are preparing to tear up more of the street. I haven’t ...

Gary Franks column

EDITOR: I just read George Franks’ fantasy article on the opinion page, Monday, June 12. It is understood that he believes in things that go against everything I believe. He praises CNN and CBS for their great reporting. That’s incredible. I’ll let most of the junk go but I cannot stay silent on his last point. He states that in Alabama, George Wallace stopped Blacks from going to the University of Alabama because he didn’t want Blacks there. Everyone agrees that Wallace was wrong. Then he goes on to say “Sixty years later, there are folks that want fewer Blacks at the top ...
