Bay Sages program focuses on Native Americans

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Bay Sages will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Joseph Heirman University Center.

An overview of the history of Native Americans in the Delta County region will be presented by Christian Holmes.

Using sources from personal interviews, historical maps, archeology, local newspapers and a variety of historical records, a summary of Indian activities will be highlighted. Included will be information on Ojibwa, Odawa and Potawatomi Tribes. Opportunities for questions and discussion will be provided.

There will be a meeting and Christmas luncheon. There is a fee for the luncheon. Entertainment will be provided by George and Marie Peterson.

Members and guests are welcome to attend meetings of the Bay Sages, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting lifelong learning opportunities for older adults.

There is a membership fee and includes 11 monthly meetings, two of which are luncheon meetings, and monthly newsletters.

Dues for the 2018-19 year are payable at the next meeting.
