Manistique softball sweeps Rudyard
MANISTIQUE –Don’t look now, but Manistique may be heating up at the right time.
The Emeralds swept Rudyard in a softball doubleheader on Tuesday. Manistique is now 12-19 and improves to 11-4 in the month of May. Here’s what went down:
Manistique 16, Rudyard 3
The the game tied 2-2 midway through two, the Emeralds jumped on Bulldogs miscues. A single by Bella Larsen and Skylar Semasky and Alexis McDade being hit by pitches loaded the bases with one out. Aleah Laresen and Kaylin Morrison drew back-to-back walks to take a 4-2 lead. McDade then scored on a passed ball, and a Rudyard error allowed two runs to score for a 7-2 advantage for the green and white.
Two passed balls, a RBI double from McDade, a steal of home plate and another Bulldog error pushed the lead to 13-2 after three. A dropped strike three pushed Manistique’s lead to 14-3 with one out in the fourth. McDade called game with a two-run home run to end it.
McDade finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored from the batter’s box while allowing three runs (two earned) with nine walks and two strikeouts across four hitless innings. Morrison and Larsen added a hit each.
Manistique 13, Rudyard 9
After each team tacked on a run in the first the Bulldogs erupted with seven runs in their half of the second for a 8-1 lead. It didn’t last long.
The Emeralds clapped back with nine runs of their own in the frame to carry a 10-8 lead after two.
Morrison finished with three RBI and a stolen base. Ava Kusiner added two RBI and a run scored. Bella LaVigne finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base. Keira Frankovich finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a stolen base. Adele Ranney went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
McDade allowed nine runs (seven earned) off four hits with nine walks and three punchouts in four innings of work. The Emeralds face Menominee in district semifinal action at 11 a.m. Friday in Menominee.
