Gladstone softball has hits, misses during 2024 Beaverton Tournament

BEAVERTON –Fresh off a pair of run-rule victories against Ishpeming Westwood, Gladstone softball tripped south of the bridge for a trio of contests.

Here’s what went down on Saturday:

USA 3, Gladstone 0

The Braves and Patriots collided out of the gate on Saturday. Unionville-Sebawaing Area pitcher Olivia Green proved to be the best pitcher Gladstone has seen up to this point.

The Braves struggled to generate any offense, mustering three hits and striking out 10 times in six innings against Green.

Lauren Sundquist, Sam Drielick and Reese Herioux each earned a base hit.

Senior Montgomery Pepin took the loss, allowing three earned runs off four hits with seven walks and nine strikeouts across five innings of work.

Gladstone 12, Petersburg Summerfield 8

The Braves found themselves in a 6-1 hole midway through two innings. The deficit was ultimately short lived.

A two-run double from freshman Madison Sundquist cut the deficit to three runs. After Joelle Jordan was thrown out at first base after a dropped third strike for the first out, the top of the Braves’ order came up to bat.

They did non disappoint.

With an RBI triple from lead-off hitter Lauren Sundquist, an RBI single from two-hitter Rylee Gerow and an RBI double from Pepin, batting third in the order, the Braves tied the game at six.

Gladstone’s lead ballooned to 10-7 with an RBI single from Lauren Sundquist and a two-run single from Drielick in the third and became 12-8 in the fourth when Lauren Sundquist cranked a two-run double.

Lauren Sundquist finished 4-for-4 with five RBI, scored three times and stole a base. Madison Sundquist finished 3-for-3, scored three times and drove in two runs.

Pepin and Gerow each finished with two hits. Gerow started the game in the circle, allowing six unearned runs off hits hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Pepin allowed two earned runs off two hits while issuing a trio of free passes and fanning three in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Ithaca 6, Gladstone 0

The Braves lineup was held in check by the pitching tandem of Ivy Davenport and Maeli Akin. The duo combined to allow one hit to Drielick, walked three and struck out six in four innings of action from the circle.

Pepin allowed six runs (four earned) off three hits with seven walks and four strikeouts in three innings of action.

The Braves stay on the road for a doubleheader against Menominee starting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
