Gladstone softball earns sweep over Menominee
MENOMINEE –On Saturday the Braves took two L’s, but on Tuesday they bounced back, and in a big way.
Gladstone softball made the trip down US-41 for a doubleheader against Menominee. The Braves walked away with a pair of wins, defeating the Maroons 21-5 and 10-0.
Here’s what went down:
Gladstone 21, Menominee 5
The Braves won the battle on the scoreboard, and could’ve also won as the blackjack table.
Gladstone (5-2) produced nine runs in the first inning with six different players earning RBIs and 15 batters appearing in the first inning for a 9-0 lead.
The Braves didn’t stop there, mustering a mighty two-out rally in the second inning. With a two-run double from Rylee Gerow and a two-run single from B Pendergraft, two bases loaded walks and two runs off a Maroons error, Gladstone led 17-5 after two.
Montgomery Pepin finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and scored twice while striking out three acrosstwo perfect innings on the circle. Gerow finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, scored three times and swiped two bases while allowing five runs (four earned) off five hits and one walk in one inning of action.
Sam Drielick finished 1-for-2 with two RBI, walked twice and stole a base. Lauren Sundquist scored three times, walked three times, stole two bases and earned an RBI. Madison Sundquist finished 2-for-2, scoring three times, drove in a pair and walked twice.
Gladstone 10, Menominee 0
The Braves scratched across three runs in the first off an RBI fielders choice from Drielick, a sacrifice fly from Gerow and a passed ball allowed Pepin to score for a 3-0 lead after one.
Gladstone kept the train rolling with an RBI triple from Lauren Sundquist, a two-run home run from Reese Herioux and a RBI sacrifice fly from A Larson for a 7-0 lead midway through two.
Lauren Sundquist walloped an RBI single and was followed by a two-run double from Herioux to take a 10-0 lead.
Herioux finished 4-for-4 with three RBI, scored twice and stole a base. Lauren Sundquist finished 3-for-3, scored three times, drove in two and stole a base. Drielick, Madison Sundquist and Emma Trombley stole two bases each.
Pepin hurled a five-inning no-hitter, walking four and fanning eight.
