GLADSTONE — Gladstone Braves’ senior defensive lineman Hunter Potier continues to earn praise for his efforts on the gridiron during the 2021 season as he was named to the Associated Press Division 5-6 All-State team last week.
Prior to being named to the AP All-State team, Potier had already been honored as the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters’ All-U.P. Defensive Player of the Year as well as the Mitch Snyder Lineman of the year.
He was also a selection to the All-U.P. Dream Team as a defensive end.
Braves football coach called Potier “The most dominant defender in the U.P.,” and rightfully so.
“He was the career sack leader and tackles for loss leader in the history of Gladstone football with 37 sacks and 39 tackles for loss,” Hansen commented. “All-GNC and All-U.P. as a sophomore, junior, and senior. MHSFCA all-region and all-state as a junior and senior.”
On top of being the best defender amongst the current crop of seniors, Hansen also named Potier as one of the greatest Braves to ever take the field.
“Considered to be the most dominant defender in the last 50 years of Braves football with the likes of Kent King and Jared Vuksen. Relentless motor, truly a generational talent and future Braves Hall of Famer,” he said.
Potier finished the regular season with 63 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and two forced fumbles in the 2021 football season.
Other honors this year included being voted defensive player of the year in the GNC this season as well as earning a position on the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association’s All-State List.
