North Central boys overwhelm Cougars

EBEN — The boys of North Central got another win for the Jets (3-0) Monday night as they defeated the Superior Central Cougars (0-2) 71-38 in Skyline Central Conference play in Eben.

“We pushed the tempo pretty well (and) got up early,” said Jets coach Mike Malone. “Superior Central has some young guys that are still learning the game but they played super hard. And they executed pretty well offensively, but we were able to anticipate and create turnovers and ran the floor well.”

Connor Florenski led the scoring for North Central with 21 points, while Luke Gorzinski (16) and Carter Tietz (11) also broke the 10-point barrier for the Jets.

Superior Central’s scoring was led by Zach Frusti, who put up 16 points.

Even with the win, Malone hopes the North Central squad continues to improve. “I wasn’t too upset about our performance, but we can definitely play better,” he said.

A rivalry rematch from last season’s district quarterfinal against the Wolves of Carney-Nadeau is up next for North Central. That game will be played tonight in Powers.
