BR-H bounces back over FP
HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris girls basketball team didn’t take its opening loss lightly and bounced back to a 75-24 win over Forest Park in Harris Friday.
“We had 25 in the first quarter, I think, and the first 18 points of the game,” Broncos coach Matt Richer said. “They (Forest Park) had a couple girls out. They were down to five varsity players and JV with the 5th quarter rule.”
Unlike the Broncos’ opener, Richer felt the team started to click.
“I think this is more the team I envisioned us having,” he said. “We moved the ball well tonight. We had eight girls score. It was a nice bounce-back game. I think this is kinda going to be the norm for us. I think we’re a good team.”
Richer also highlighted a few players who stood out in the rout.
“Lauren Zawada had 15 on her second game on varsity,” he said. “She’s shown that in practice all the time. She has a knack for finding the right spots, and she’s a great rebounder for us. Aspen Fredrick and Cara Zawacki had 17 and 16 apiece. They both had really good first quarters to catapult us out to the lead.”
The Broncos’ resilience was something Richer was happy to see after the opening loss.
“It was a good bounce back, and we got some good time for all the players,” he said. “I’m proud of the girls. They worked hard for me. They didn’t hold their heads down, and we worked hard in practice.”
The Broncos, who won the JV game, visits Gwinn Monday.
