Redmen, Jets maintain 1st

ESCANABA — There wasn’t much change at the top in the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association U.P. Football poll, but there was some movement further down the ranks.

On the eight-player side, North Central (5-0) — which placed first on the Eight-player Associated Press Michigan Prep Poll — held top place with a decisive win over Rapid River Friday 72-0.

Forest Park (5-0) — which placed eighth on the Eight-Player AP Poll — bumped Pickford (4-1) — which placed seventh on the Eight-Player AP Poll — down to third with a 30-28 win over Norway and Pickford’s first loss to Superior Central with a forfeit.

Ontonagon (4-1) moved up one into fourth place, with Rudyard falling off the poll completely.

Newberry (4-1) entered the poll at fifth, and Norway (3-2) earned an honorable mention.

For 11-player, Marquette (4-1) and Kingsford (4-1) retained their spots as first and second with wins over Gladstone and Escanaba respectively.

Sault Ste. Marie (4-1) and Westwood (4-1) each moved up a place into third and fourth, and previous third Menominee (3-2) fell into honorable mention.

Negaunee (4-1) — which placed seventh on the Division 6 11-player AP Poll — earned fifth, and Calumet (3-2) was also an honorable mention behind Menominee.
