NC rolls past Norway
NORWAY — Luke Gorzinski ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the North Central Jets rolled to a 44-0 eight-player football victory over the Norway Knights.
Gorzinski tossed a 20-yard TD pass to Wyatt Rabb and ran for scores of 24 and 48 yards as the Jets gained a 22-0 lead after the first quarter of the Great Lakes Eight West Division contest.
The junior quarterback added a 20-yard TD run in the second quarter and completed a 26-yard scoring pass to Carter Tietz, giving the Jets a 36-0 halftime cushion.
Brent Labonte added a three-yard TD pass to Alex Naser in the fourth frame.
“We got our fast guys going and were able to run a couple sets,” said Jets’ coach Leo Gorzinski. “We played our starters in the first half, then worked on some things we need to get better at in the second half. Norway kept battling and did some good things. They showed us some things we have to get better at. They played very aggressive defense, but Luke was able to take advantage of some of the gaps.”
Luke Gorzinski ran 10 times for 147 yards and hit 7-of-11 passes for 132. Raab grabbed five aerials for 68, and Elijah Gorzinski caught a 38-yard pass.
The Jets (2-0) finished with 375 yards in total offense. Norway had 105 yards, with Easton Dwight gaining 101 on 11 receptions.
Dylan Plunger led North Central on defense with 6 1/2 tackles. Luke Gorzinski added 5 1/2 and Raab and Naser had 4 1/2 apiece.
“Our defensive line was impressive,” said coach Gorzinski. “Dylan, Elijah and Carter stepped up and made some big plays for us. Norway is going to get better. I’m very close with those guys, and I understand their history and pride. These are the teams we need to play to go where we want to go. They gave us different looks.”
The Jets host Carney-Nadeau Friday. The Knights (1-1) travel to Lake Linden-Hubbell Sept. 11.
