Carney-Nadeau volleyball sweeps Stephenson

ARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves returned to action Wednesday night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-15) sweep over the Stephenson Eagles at home in Carney.

“After sitting for a week like that, it felt like practice yesterday was like the first of the year,” said Wolves coach Steve Kedsch. “It was a bit of a slow start.”

In the opening set, Kedsch said it took a little while to get going primarily due to Stephenson’s serving.

“Stephenson was serving really well, and it took us a little to get going with the serve receive,” he said. “We were down, I think, 13-10 early, and we were able to battle back and finish that first set.

“Overall, I thought we served well. Our serve-receive settled down, and we were able to run our offense.”

Once the Wolves found their groove, they took sets two and three 25-14 and 25-15.

Kedsch gave praise to the Eagles, who were down some members of their varsity squad.

“I thought Stephenson did a good job tonight,” he said. “They were missing some players on varsity. They hustled well and made it tough for us.”

Samantha Kedsch led Carney in digs with 10. She also had seven assists and two aces.

Mackenzie Walcher had eight digs with four kills as Olivia Accord and Mary Sivula each had four digs.

Malorie Baumler had five aces to lead that category as well as three kills.

In junior varsity play, the Eagles won 2-0 (25-10, 25-14) over the Wolves.

Next for the Wolves is Gladstone’s Rock Invitational in Gladstone this Saturday.

Starting at $4.00/week.
