Broncos stampede past Wykons

STAMBAUGH — The Bark River-Harris Broncos got plenty of production out of their fullbacks here Thursday night in a 53-6 football victory over the West Iron County Wykons.

Junior Tristan Halfaday carried five times for 115 yards. Vincent Martin ran for 75 yards and a touchdown on six carries and Senior Trevor Lippens added 53 yards and a TD on seven carries.

The Broncos led 40-6 at halftime of the WestPAC Conference Iron Division outing.

“They gave us tough first quarter, then we wore them down after that,” said BR-H coach Al Stenberg. “They had real low numbers and we have high numbers. It was a tough draw for them with our depth. We started 22 players and nobody had to go both ways. We need to keep winning to make the playoffs. I’m really happy with how we’re jelling as a team. We’re building some depth.”

Sophomore quarterback Ethan Ives completed two passes for 25 yards, including a 16-yard TD to classmate Ben Shiverski.

The Broncos (2-0 overall and Iron Division) rushed for 381 yards.

“For two games in a row our linemen got to their blocks pretty well,” said Stenberg. “They move their feet and get just enough push to score, too.”

BR-H is idle until Sept. 11 when it travels to Kalkaska. West Iron hosts Manistique Sept. 10.

“Hats off the West Iron,” said Stenberg. “We have a lot of respect for their program. Coming out with 12 players is tough. I’ve been there.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
