Eskymos top Antigo
ANTIGO, Wis. — The Escanaba Eskymos started their football season on the right foot here Saturday in a 42-28 non-conference football victory over the Antigo Red Robins.
Casey Bray ran for one touchdown and passed for the Eskymos, who led 42-14 early in the fourth quarter.
“It was a real physical game,” said first-year Esky coach Dave Wilson. “They got behind our defense and scored on two long passes. Credit to them. They made the plays, although we didn’t defend those very well. They stayed in their Wing-T (offense) and gave us some problems. Our kids were excited to play and executed well. Credit to our coaches for putting together a good game plan. This was a great win for our team.”
Antigo also scored on an onside kick in the fourth frame.
The Eskymos rushed for 250 yards and Casey Bray passed for 79 yards, including a 54-yard TD aerial to Trent Lawson.
Bray and Connor Smale ran for TDs and Ben Johnson added a scored on a 17-yard interception return.
“I thought we ran the ball well,” said Wilson. “We also controlled the line of scrimmage and threw the ball pretty well.”
The Eskymos travel to Petoskey Friday.
“They have a real good quarterback,” said Wilson. “It’s going to be a good challenge for us.”
