MANISTIQUE — The Manistique volleyball team didn’t have much trouble rolling over Newberry at home Thursday, earning a straight-set victory (25-13, 25-10, 25-13).
“We jumped out to a big lead and didn’t look back in all three sets,” Emeralds coach Amy Nixon said. “The whole team did a good job keeping the intensity up for the whole match.”
Nixon was pleased to see that, despite leading, her team’s discipline held out — especially at the beginning of the season.
“We’re still trying to do everything right on our side as much as possible, and I think our girls did a good job of that tonight,” she said.
The Emeralds’ Emma Jones led the team in both aces (6) and assists, and Bailey Allor took top spot in digs with 18.
Ella Schuetter also sat atop two categories, earning 15 kills and three blocks.
“I think it was a lot of fun for us,” Nixon said. “We played really well as a team. We served pretty consistently and put Newbery out of system a lot, and when we had a chance to get our offense going, we took advantage. I felt that the girls had a fun night tonight.”
The Emeralds, who won the JV match 2-1, are idle until Sept. 7 when they travel to Ishpeming.
