GROSSE POINTE — The 11-12 Major League Escanaba All-Stars dropped its two opening contests this weekend — 5-4 against Muskegon Roosevelt Park Sunday and 5-2 against Bay City Southwest Saturday — in Grosse Pointe.

In the Saturday match-up against Bay City Southwest, Escanaba got down early as Bay City scored early to go up.

By the time the sixth inning rolled around, Esky was down 5-0 as they tried to muster a rally.

While Escanaba scored two runs — Brody Ison reached home on a wild pitch while Griffin Johnson railed one into left field for a single RBI — they couldn’t build enough momentum to overcome the five-point deficit taking the 5-2 loss.

Esky had a handful of slingers atop the mound in the contest as Ison, Joey Garcia and Zahn Anderson all took turns pitching throughout the game.

Ison started with Anderson closing things up.

Up next for Escanaba is Kalamazoo South Portage today at 12:15 p.m.
