Jets earn first win

HERMANSVILLE — Ian Gorzinski fired a one-hitter and struck out 11 and walked four as the North Central Jets posted an 11-0 baseball victory over the Manistique Emeralds in five innings here Thursday night.

“Ian really had the velocity dialed in,” said Jets’ coach Jason Mercier. “We had been waiting for his arm to catch up this season and this was a glimpse of his potential. We are a young team like Manistique, but we’ve been able to lean on a couple seniors like Wyatt (Riley) and Ian which certainly helps. It’s just our first win, but something to build on.”

Riley collected three hits and Wyatt Raab added two for the Jets, who finished with nine hits and stole seven bases.

They visit Norway for a doubleheader Monday.

Jack McEvers had the lone hit for the Emeralds, who are entered in Saturday’s Newberry Invitational.

Jude Way absorbed the loss, allowing five runs on three hits through one inning.
