Braves coup Redettes
MARQUETTE — The Gladstone softball team went up early and kept on rolling past Marquette Friday in Marquette. The Braves finished the game in five innings, 16-6.
It was Gladstone’s Sophia Rose who sealed the game with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the fifth to enact the mercy rule.
“She took advantage of her opportunity,” Braves coach Rick Pepin said. “I’m glad to see her have some success.”
The Braves were front and back-loaded, scoring eight runs in the first, four in the second and four more in the fifth to seal up the game.
Montgomery Pepin earned the win for the Braves over four innings, walking three and striking out nine. Rylee Gerow pitched one in relief.
Liv Blowers (1-1) and Addie Trombley each finished with three RBIs apiece for the Braves. Montgomery Pepin added two RBIs, and Gerow and Marnea LaFave collected two hits apiece.
Gladstone visits Kingsford Monday.
