EAST LANSING — With a college career at Calvin University on the horizon, Carney-Nadeau’s Beau Koffman added another item to his list of high school basketball accomplishments this week as he was named to the Division 4 All-State Second Team.
Koffman — who was named Skyline Central Conference MVP and made the Division 4 All-U.P. Second Team — averaged 21.2 points per game, 4.5 assists per game, 5.2 assists per game and 2.1 steals.
He also hit the 1,000 point mark on his career this year, ending his time as a three-year starter with over 1,100 points.
His achievements come from years of hard work, said Wolves coach Paul Polfus.
“He has put in a tremendous amount of time over the last four years to become the player he is today,” Polfus said.
Polfus added Koffman’s qualities as a leader shined through into the postseason.
“His leadership in the end through the tournament was huge,” he said. “It was somebody for us to, sort of, lean on when we needed some stabilization in our game.
“I think the other kids followed that lead, and I think they grew from it as well. A lot of it goes on his leadership.”
Pierre Brooks II from Detroit Douglass was named Player of the Year. Detroit Douglass’ coach Pierre Brooks Sr. was named Coach of the Year.
