ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos took care of their home courts here Thursday in a season-opening 8-0 tennis victory over the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.

Brayden Roberts topped Ryan LaPointe 6-3, 6-3 in one of the closer matches at No. 4 singles and Gunner Dlugas took a 6-2, 6-3 decision from Brendan LaPointe at No. 1.

“The guys did pretty good,” said Esky coach Tom Penegor. “Iron Mountain has a very young team. We had some good, competitive matches. This was our second match this week, and this was their first match which I’m sure helped us some.”

The Eskymos, who scrimmaged Menominee Tuesday, host Gladstone Monday.
