Rockets defeat North Dickinson

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River boys basketball team took an early lead and kept rolling Tuesday in Rapid River. The Rockets maintained their first-quarter lead to top North Dickinson 65-37 in the Skyline Central Conference match-up.

The Rockets outscored the Nordics 16-5 in the first quarter and didn’t look back as North Dickinson found itself outscored in each following quarter.

“I’m really proud of how they played for four quarters,” Rockets coach Rich Poma said. “We really hustled in all of them. (I was also) very happy with our team defense. Our main goal, again, was to keep the guys off the free throw line. The guys did a great job on that.”

Mason Kudlick led Rapid River with 16 points and four triples, and Matt Snay collected 12.

“Mason did a good job getting us going offensively,” Poma said. “It really kind of translated to the other guys, and they had that confidence going forward. I’m really happy with the whole game.”

The Nordics were led by Max Mattson with 24 points and three treys.

“Our other key was trying to keep Max (Mattson) out of the score column,” Poma said. “He still scored a lot (even with that focus), so credit to him. He’s a good player and a good shooter.”

Rapid River, which won the JV match, hosts Forest Park Thursday.
