Rockets rout Engadine

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Rockets took charge early here Friday night in a 48-6 eight-player football rout of Engadine.

Bryce Lundquist threw for four touchdowns in the first quarter as the Rockets built a 30-0 lead in this Great Lakes Eight Conference East Division contest.

Mason Kudlick caught TD passes of 31 and 44 yards in the opening frame and another TD aerial for 42 in the second. He also scored on a 32-yard run in the third.

“We had some guys running open,” said Rockets’ coach Steve Ostrenga. “They were bringing extra linebackers. They put some good pressure on Bryce and we had a couple breakdowns, but this is a tribute to the offense and our receivers for getting open. Kudlick was certainly the beneficiary. He’s got good speed and makes it nice for our quarterback. When we had to buy time, Bryce did so. It was a good combination all around.”

The Rockets (2-0 overall and league) collected 393 yards in total offense. Lundquist was 5-of-9 passing for 198 yards, five TDs and an interception. They rushed for 195 yards.

Hernandez carried seven times for 86 yards and a 46-yard TD dash. Griffin Flath gained 53 yards on 10 carries and Kudlick rushed three times for 45 yards.

Kudlick caught three passes for 114 yards. Griffin Flath had a 54-yard TD reception and Max Lenaker and 34 yards receiving, including a 29-yard TD.

“Dave Lundquist (assistant coach) dialed up the plays and he took what they gave us defensively,” said Ostrenga. “We caused some turnovers and it started with a blocked punt by Ishmael. We had good coverage and they had a couple dropped passes. We have to correct the little things each week. It’s a work in progress and I think that’s true for a lot of times.”

Ben and Max Lenaker and Flath had an interception each. Flath also had 10 tackles and Parker Dausey had two QB sacks for the Rockets, who travel to Cedarville Friday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
