Bourdeau earns hat trick, Esky throttles Negaunee

NEGAUNEE — Spencer Bourdeau recorded a hat trick, Ethan Silverstone and Kyle Krutina achieved playmaker status and the Escanaba Eskymos used a second period avalanche to drop the Negaunee Miners 6-3 in a Friday night hockey contest in Negaunee.

After trailing 1-0 after the first period, Sawyer LaMarch got the Eskymos (4-2) on the board seven minutes into the second period. His brother, Jayger LaMarch, then scored a minute later to give the Eskymos their first lead. Krutina added an unassisted goal with five minutes left in the period and Spencer Bourdeau’s first goal made it 4-1 18 seconds later.

“We just came out flat, so them scoring on us in the first period was good,” Esky coach Matt Hughes said. “It was a wake-up call and the guys responded. We knew we had to come out and put some pressure on them and we were able to do that.”

Bourdeau scored two more goals in the third period — each assisted by Silverstone and Kyle Krutina.

“They all play on the same line,” Hughes said.

“Spencer was camped out in front for one of them. Ethan passed it out in front and he hammered it home. The other two goals were just him going to the net and being in the right spot at the right time and then finishing his chances. That line really moved the puck well together tonight.”

Th Miners added two third period goals as the Eskymos got into penalty trouble.

Sophomore goaltender Dylan Ziemke made 31 saves for the Eskymos, who outshot the Miners 39-34. Twenty of Negaunee’s shots came in the third period.

Esky hosts Hancock next Friday.
