Hannahville booters toppled

HANNAHVILLE — It was a tough day on the soccer field for the Hannahville Soaring Eagles as they dropped an 8-0 decision to the Mackinac Island Lakers Saturday.

“Mackinac had some nice plays,” said Hannahville coach Dan Kleikamp. “Communication breakdowns and sloppy play really hurt us. We didn’t have anybody talking to each other. We gave up a couple goals we shouldn’t have.”

Junior Shane Dwyer served as goaltender for Hannahville (0-2).

“Shane had a lot of nice plays, but he has played just 1 1/2 games in goal and is still getting his feet wet,” said Kleikamp. “I told him ‘you’re going to do just fine.’ Most of the kids are freshmen and sophomores. We’re trying to build some team chemistry.”

In volleyball, the Soaring Eagles dropped another 3-2 decision to the Lakers.

The Soaring Eagles travel to Big Bay de Noc Tuesday. The Lakers visit the Black Bears Friday and Saturday.
