Esky, Flivs get net draw

KINGSFORD — Kingsford and Escanaba each won a pair of singles and doubles matches in a 4-4 girls tennis draw Thursday.

The Flivvers played without No. 1 singles Stephanie List (ill). Escanaba No. 1 Heather Bergstrom defeated Karlee Hulkkonen 6-0, 6-2.

“Because Escanaba is in both our (Great Northern) conference and (UP) division, we decided to have our normal two, three and four singles players play, so that we have those matchups for seeding in the tournaments,” said Kingsford Coach Sarah Massie. “Because of that, I had a JV player fill in at one.”

Escanaba No. 1 doubles Abby Knudsen-Jasmine Clark outlasted Grace Lorenzoni-Mackenzie Schwamlien 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in a “very long, three-set match.”

Flivver No. 4 singles Jessica Tomasoski swept her opponent.

“Jessica had a great match today,” Massie said. “She started the year playing doubles and has since adjusted to singles very well. I’m excited to see her continue to improve as we approach the end of year tournaments.”
