EDITOR: President Biden’s critics complain that his administration is veering toward “socialism,” the scare word used by those who opposed Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, the Affordable Care Act and other legislation enacted to help ordinary Americans. Biden’s critics were steadfast in their opposition to his American Rescue Plan which put much-needed dollars in the pockets of millions of Americans during a pandemic. Despite record job growth, record low unemployment and rising wages, they blame President Biden for the price of gasoline although a gallon ...

McBroom should testify

EDITOR: The Iron Mountain Daily News reported on June 18th that our State Senator, Ed Mc Broom acknowledged his refusal to appear in person, before the United States Senate Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. His testimony as the chairperson of the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee which found “no evidence of widespread or systematic fraud’ in the 2020 presidential election,” is relevant to our state and to our nation. McBroom stated in his justification: “Every member of this body (Michigan Senate) should take offense to this ...

Endorsement for Prestin

I, John Malnar, as Delta County commissioner, am endorsing Dave Prestin for 108th House of Representative. I have sat on the same board (Delta Menominee County Public Health) with Dave for two years. He has shown leadership on this board. Dave will do a great job and will see that the Upper Peninsula gets what we deserve; that’s why I support Dave Prestin for the 108th House of Representative.

Poor attendance

EDITOR: To the community of Rock, and Maple Ridge Township, we were disappointed that we only had three individuals who took the time to attend the Flag Day ceremony at the veterans memorial. So find it! Until then, no “planned” utility and tax hike on the already put upon “too expensive to live here” citizens. Conundrum solved? No, Yikes. New dumbness: telling above citizens that now more money is needed. Why”? For a marijuana attorney. What kind of joint is this. (pun) Why ...

Signs, signs, everywhere

EDITOR: I understand that there is a sign ordinance in Escanaba. We were contacted because someone that wanted to put a lighted sign up less than a block away. Someone in the area took it upon themselves to try and get this sign request not approved. North Lincoln Road across from Travelodge. It was approved and they have a very nice sign now. We just came by the new Chamber of Commerce/U.P. State Fair Office/Welcome Center. They have the same kind of sign. I don’t know how long it has been there. I am usually looking to turn to go home right there. My question: Did someone get ...
