EDITOR: On July 13, Escanaba lost another Northtown veteran, Bud Irving. Bud gave thousands of hours of his life assisting his fellow veterans of the U.P. With his dogs Chopper and Chubbers, he would visit them in hospitals and bring them to and from medical appointments — no questions or payment asked. Years ago, he told me in Korea on July 4, 1952, he and his men were told to do a routine “mop up” reconnaissance mission. EDITOR: Every time I think the Delta County Board of Commissioners cannot possibly do anything more outrageous, they prove me wrong. The meeting of July 18 was yet another example of why three of our sitting commissioners need to go. The bigotry, racism, and hatred that Commissioners Barron, Moyle, and Petersen exhibited in their failure to pass a resolution of supporting UPCAP’s plan for providing services to the area’s elderly population may have reached a new low. The irony of this statement I hope is not lost on me. “Traditionally, in a civil society, the loser of contest is not allowed destroy the winner.
