Defund Bergman

EDITOR:

It has been almost 2 months since the violent attack on our nation’s Capital. We all watched in horror as the insurrection unfolded being a direct result of the “Big Lie”; a lie that was promoted by the former President, and many politicians who support him, that the election was stolen. Our own Representative Jack Bergman was one of those and, indeed, voted to not certify verified legal votes of his constituents and even votes cast in other states AFTER the attack on our capital and democracy.

As a poll worker and a constituent I am appalled, outraged and disgusted by his attack on a free and fair election. Poll workers all over the state and country work hard to ensure there is zero fraud and that elections are held with integrity and transparency. To disqualify votes for one candidate (the President) while accepting his own votes would be laughable if it wasn’t so dangerous. To this day, Representative Bergman has neither apologized nor acknowledged his role in lying to the public that led to an insurrection that took the lives of law enforcement and others.

Democracy and our republic is fragile and takes truth and hard work to maintain it. We must protect it from both within and without. Hundreds of constituents have called on Representative Bergman to accept his responsibility in the lies that led to the insurrection. A grassroots group is now asking his contributors to direct their funds towards candidates that uphold our values and democracy. Large corporations like Blue Cross Blue Shield,Verizon and the US Chamber of Commerce have all pledged to cut ties with the 147 Congress members who voted to overturn the election results. This is not about party, it’s about ethics.
