Janice E. Hemby-Wetterhahn

BARK RIVER — Janice E. Hemby-Wetterhahn, 86, of Bark River, originally from Minneapolis, Minn., passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 19, 2020 at home with family. She was born on Oct. 10, 1934 in Aitkin, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Mabel (Nelson) Schmehl, but raised by grandparents, Andrew and Julia Nelson. She married Dwight G. Hemby and together they started Alto Sewer Service, Inc. in Minneapolis. Jan did the original artwork for the Alto Sewer Service Logo, which is still in use today. She was widowed in 1999 and on April 3, 2003 she married Robert Paul Wetterhahn of Minneapolis in Escanaba.

Jan had a tremendous sense of humor and a giant heart that touched everyone she knew. She had a unique ability to instantly gather you up and make you feel important to her. Jan loved nature and enjoyed crocheting, reading, and caring for all her animals (who will also dearly miss her).

Jan is survived by her children, Karen Anderson (Chris), Yvonne (Tony) Kleikamp, Bobby (Sharon) Wigen, David Wigen, Mary Joyce (Jim) Brigham, and Gary (Penny) Wigen; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; husbands, Dwight Hemby and Robert Wetterhahn; aunt, Ruth Tuholski; uncles, Edward Nelson and Arthur Nelson; brother, Jack Stearns; sister, Shirley Jennrich; and granddaughter, Ashley Wigen.

Jan’s family will have a celebration of her life at a later date in her hometown in Minnesota. The Anderson Funeral Homes are assisting the Hemby-Wetterhahn family and online remembrances can be shared at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
