SKANDIA — A collision Sunday afternoon between a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Skandia Township resulted in serious injuries to the male driver of the motorcycle and the death of his female passenger.
The crash occurred at 1:40 p.m. Eastern time at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Carlshend Road, the Marquette County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. The pickup truck had reportedly been traveling westbound on M-94 and collided at the intersection with the motorcycle that was southbound on U.S. 41.
"Though life-saving measures were attempted, the female passenger on the motorcycle was pronounced dead on scene," the news release stated.
The motorcycle passenger was later identified as 59-year-old Lisa Smale of Christman.
The male driver of the motorcycle was seriously injured and taken to Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette, though his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.
Now, the Marquette County Sheriff's Office is seeking information from a possible additional witness to the fatal crash.
"If you, or someone you know, was a witness to this incident, please contact the Marquette County Sheriff's Office at 906-225-8435," the sheriff's office said.
Assisting were Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement, U.P. Health System EMS, Skandia Township Fire and EMS, Heavy Hooker Towing and Recovery, Marquette Detailing and Performance, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
