ESCANABA — The Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has organized a local Pop-UP Market to turn weekday shopping into a lively social event.
The Pop-UP Market takes place every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Escanaba Marketplace, located at 1501 Ludington Street. The weekly events will run through the end of August.
The Pop-UP Market has been set up to assist businesses downtown with difficulties resulting from the Ludington Street construction project. The market provides an opportunity for these businesses to sell their products in a location that is easier for customers to access. According to DDA Director Craig Woerpel, two downtown businesses have taken advantage of the market so far.
“It is a great place to hang out and relax, check out the vendors and listen to some music before heading downtown to more shopping and dining,” Woerpel said.
The Pop-UP Market is also intended to provide a location for other businesses to set up shop, as well as highlight musicians and artists. Musical acts will be performed at the market from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

“We’ve had some newer musicians who haven’t had many opportunities to perform,” Woerpel noted. “That is why the Pop-UP Market is good. It gives them a chance to showcase their talents and play for people while they enjoy the market.”
The next Pop-UP Market takes place tomorrow.
